Base Contact R1.

Geometry, analysis and remaining engineering work for Base Contact R1.

Retained development study. Dimensions, names and checks belong to this revision—not automatically to the retrofit-only product. Manufactured tank shells are deferred. No installation instruction, certification or manufacturing release is represented.

The source reasoning

Why this detail was investigated.

Mapping the nominal post case directly onto the 18 aligned 120 × 80 mm shoes gives a peak nominal average of 6.24 MPa. The corresponding roof pressure is only 0.10144 MPa. This exposes a strong concentration at the floor interface that the current skin/bedding design has not resolved.

Research record

The detail behind
the study.

Source-linked work for this revision. Reported checks describe the stated model or test; physical qualification and applicability to the current retrofit remain separate.

This is a screening assumption, not a solved base reaction or a soil capacity check. Base-member bending can redistribute forces between shoes; curved contact, local compliance and external bedding can change the pressure distribution. The projected blank area is not a verified effective bearing area. The roof-pressure reference is not a geotechnical allowable.

Do not reduce the shoes or claim that nominal contact completes the load path. A distributed base support and its skin/bedding interaction must be designed. The CSV maps all 18 nominal-case reactions to shoe IDs; the JSON also retains rigid and half-stiffness post cases.

All three cases retain the 661.115 kN roof resultant. No floor strength, settlement, punching, buckling or support-loss acceptance is established by this calculation.
